Portrait Artist Cyril Coetzee - Portraits of Academic Dignitaries by Cyril

Coetzee has painted many Chancellors, Vice Chancellors and Chairs of Council for a number of Universities, as well as school Headmasters. These portraits strikingly feature the emblems, insignia, crests and plush regalia of various academic institutions. Several of these portraits are reproduced and discussed in the book “Picturing Change: Curating Visual Culture at Post-apartheid Universities”, by Brenda Schmahmann, Wits University Press, 2013.
